Victoria has plenty of historic sites and cultural places of interest that are worth seeing while in Gozo. Pjazza Indipendenza (Independence Square), also referred to as 'it-Tokk', is the main square in the centre of town. The most prominent building in the square is the Banca Giuratale, the former seat of the municipal government of Gozo which today hosts the Victoria Local Council. Shops, cafes and a lively open air market selling various merchandise in the mornings are situated around Independence Square. Small narrow streets surround the splendid St George Basilica in the centre of the oldest part of town. While several museums such as the Gozo Museum of Archeology and the Gozo Nature Museum are located within the Citadel, the Villa Rundle Public Gardens are located on Republic Street in the centre of Victoria.
