MARSALFORN, GOZO’S CHARMING FISHING VILLAGE
Once the main port of Gozo, today the village of Marsalforn is a popular tourist resort due to its many charming swimming spots. Marsalforn is an attractive fishing town nestled between Xagħra and Żebbuġ, forming part of the Zebbug locality on the northern coast of the island. With a history that dates back to Roman times, the port was used to unload food supplies from Sicily up until the sixteenth century. As Mgarr harbour developed into Gozo’s main port, over the years Marsalforn transformed into a prominent seaside resort. Local fishermen can be seen tending to their colourful boats and fishing nets all year round, giving visitors an unique insight into traditional life on Gozo.
Marsalforn Bay has a small sand and pebble beach surrounded by a number of hotels, restaurants and bars offering stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. Providing further sunbathing and swimming spaces is the bay’s encircling rocky coast where one can dive straight into the deep blue sea. Snorkelling and kayaking are both popular activities in Marsalforn Bay, with several scuba diving schools located in the area. From Marsalforn, which is easily reached by car or by bus from Rabat and Zebbug, you can book cruises around Gozo or to Comino, and its Blue Lagoon.
